Vasco hope Ricardo Gomes will return as coach for next season
Vasco da Gama president Roberto Dinamite has revealed that the club are not planning to replace head coach Marcelo Oliveira, who resigned on Monday following six straight defeats, before the end of the season, but added they expect Ricardo Gomes to return as manager for 2013.
Dinamite told Fohla de S.Paulo: "Right now we continue with Gaúcho [Oliveira's assistant]. A possibility exists of another name, but right now my desire is to end of the season with Gaúcho and then for Ricardo to return for 2013."
A return to the Vasco bench would be a fantastic moment for Gomes, 47, who has been out of football since 28th August 2011 when he suffered a stroke during the derby match between Flamengo and Vasco in Engenhão.
"Vasco was always beside him. He is in the recovery phase but we are talking and he hopes to return. We can not force him, but I felt that it's what he wants. We do not promise, I just say what I felt in conversations with him," added Dinamite.
