According to head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Grêmio’s performance in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Ponte Preta was their worst since he took over at the club earlier this year.

However, the victory, which came via André Lima’s last minute header, has all but secured a place in the 2013 Copa Libertadores, with the club requiring just 1 point from the remaining 4 games.

Luxemburgo told Zero Hora: “It was the worst performance since I’m here. Without balance collectively, individually without thinking, without playing the ball. Against a team who are coached very well, we try to solve things differently from what we are used to seeing. We were very disfigured. It was the worst performance under my command in Grêmio.

However, the coach, whose future is yet to be decided, was keen to praise the fans for dragging the team to victory.

“Today, the history of Grêmio took the field. The crowd was the team’s centre forward.”
