Reports in Lancenet on Saturday claimed that Ronaldinho was in talks to sign for Brasileirão leaders Fluiminese. However, Rodrigo Caetano, director of football at Fluminense, has dismissed any interest in the Atletico Mineiro star.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Caetano said it would be unethical to pursue the signing of a player from their main rivals in the title race.

He said: “Let’s talk about Ronaldinho. There is no ongoing negotiation. Fluminense do not work that way and it would be unethical to have a conversation with an athlete of our main competitor to the title. There is no signing.

Caetano did admit that the club are currently viewing their transfer targets as they look to improve for next season.

“We believe there is further strengthening for the maintenance of our squad and that’s what we’re working towards.”

Fluminense are 8 points clear at the top of the Brazilian championship and look odds-on to claim their second league title in 3 years.
