Cruzeiro have held talks with Vasco da Gama manager Marcelo Oliveira over taking the helm at the Mineiro side next season.

Marcelo Oliveira, who only joined Vasco on 12 September, has not received any wages from the Rio de Janeiro side and thus, is permitted to break his contract which has a year to run.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, when Cruzeiro director of football Alexandre Mattos and vice-president José Maria Fialho met with the trainer in the Barra da Tijuca district on Rio de Janeiro.

The Belo Horizonte side are looking for a change in manager due to current incumbent Celso Roth’s lack of popularity amongst the playing squad due to his strict attitude in training.

Oliveira has made clear his discontent with the situation at Vasco, where results have also dropped since his arrival, and is still living out of a hotel with his prospects of a long-star at the Gigante da Colina.
