Six host cities preparing for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil are awaiting FIFA’s verdict on their readyness for the traditional curtain opener Confederations Cup in 2013.

Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Recife and Salvador are the six selected host cities for Brazil 2014, but some may face the axe for the Confederations Cup if they are not ready.

Recife’s Arena Pernambucano is believed to be the main concern with recent announcements stating that it is only 64% ready.

Such concerns were dismissed by Pernambucano State Governor Eduardo Campos: “The work has been progressing at a fast pace and the numbers show that it will be possible for the venue to be ready for the Confederations Cup. In November we will be able to have that confirmed.

“The Arena Pernambucano is a stadium that has come along at a very fast pace.”

The final verdict will be revealed by a FIFA panel at a press conference on November 8 in São Paulo.
