The Brazil native claimed the Seleção would endure a miserable World Cup in 2014 if they persisted with the coach: “I believe that the coach conducted an analysis, or had a tactical plan or something, but forgive this expression, he is a moron.”

Havelange, who led FIFA from 1974 to 1998, called for former boss Felipe Scolari to return as coach of the national team: “He leads his men with experience and character.”

The pressure is building on Menezes ahead of the 2014 World Cup on home soil, with fans already calling for the coach to be sacked.

The former Corinthians boss took over from Dunga in 2010 after Brazil’s poor performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Brazil have already lost out on a major tournament, losing to Mexico in the final of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
