Wolfsburg midfielder Diego has hinted that the club are enjoying life after coach Felix Magath"s dismissal having ended a run of four straight defeats on Saturday.

Bas Dost scored two of three Wolfsburg goals in the space of 14 minutes as they produced a strong 4-1 win at 10-man Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Diego told Bild: “It was really great fun. We enjoyed the 90 minutes."

Ivica Olic scored in between Dost’s brace and Dusseldorf trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the 71st minute with Jens Langeneke"s spot kick.

However, Diego ended all doubts with his penalty in the 78th-minute, which resulted in Oliver Fink being sent off, to claim a win in the team"s first match since the outspoken trainer"s departure.

Felix Magath was sacked last week after the club sank to the bottom of the Bundesliga table and scored only two goals in the opening eight matches of the season.

The Brazilian was loaned out to Atlético Madri last season after his relationship with Magath deteriorated at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.

Diego added: “I hope our old coach can be happy, like we are now.

“All the players were free, it was unbelievable. No-one was afraid of making mistakes. [Interim coach] Mr Lorenz prepares each player intelligently and with respect."

Wolfsburg are now preparing for tomorrow’s game with FSV Frankfurt in the DFB Cup.
