Corinthians midfielder Paulinho admits transfer speculation affected him

Corinthians midfielder Paulinho has revealed that the constant transfer speculation earlier this year had quite an affect on him. The player seemed to be on the verge of joining Italian giants Inter Milan this summer but in the end decided to sign a new deal with Corinthians to tie himself to the club for the next 4 years.
In a revealing interview with Lancenet, the Seleção star talked about those difficult times.
He said: "No I was shaking, but we were also at the time of celebration of the Libertadores. The proposal itself did not affect me, but the situation was unclear.
"To put all that proposal towards any player could have swayed them, anyone in my situation would have looked at it. It was a good proposal, but with all due respect to Inter Milan (ITA) ... I do not regret having stayed here."
With the speculation threatening to affect his performance on the field, the midfielder instructed his agent to sort things out and stated he would only leave if it was the best decision for his family. However, a deal was struck with the club and it looks to have been the best decision.
"I made a decision and I do not regret it. And I'm happy! If I had happened to have gone to any other place, I would run a risk of starting all over again, having to show my potential. This could affect my place with the Seleção.
"And I wanted to stay here because I'm close to the team. Every game I steady myself, my first goal is to establish myself in the group, then yes, being in there, fighting for a place."
