Santos considering move for Benfica star Pablo AimarSantos head coach Muricy Ramalho is excited at the idea of signing Pablo Aimar
Santos are considering a move for Benfica midfielder Pablo Aimar as they look to overhaul their squad ready for next season. The club has already identified the key positions they need to strengthen and are looking to sign a left back, centre back, central midfielder and a forward.
Aimar, 32, has found himself out of the picture at Benfica this season and the idea of bringing the Argentine to the club pleases head coach Muricy Ramalho.
He told Lancenet: "It is a name that is on the market and is interesting, but we can not say we're close. He is a player that we follow, we watch Benfica all the time and he is a player of great quality, right footed and I like his football."
The idea of the former Valencia star is not unanimously popular within the club as some have reservations of the player’s age and transfer fee, as the player is under contract until next summer. Santos and Benfica are also not on the greatest of terms after they failed to agree on a fee for former Santos player Danilo, who then moved to Benfica's rivals Porto.
Wolfsburg's Diego, who used to play for Santos, remains the clubs priority to wear the number 10 shirt but bringing the former star back to the club is complicated due to the high wages the player earns in Europe.
