Veteran striker Túlio Maravilha is back in training with Botafogo under-23s as he aims to reach the target of 1000 career goals. This is the journeyman’s 4th spell with the Rio giants in a crazy career that has seen him move clubs 34 times.
The 43-year-old is currently on 993 goals during his career as a pro, 13 of which came in 15 games for Brazil, but believes he can reach his target in just 5 games.
He told Lancenet: “Our project is in full swing, everyone is excited. By the end of the year, if it depends on me, I will get to the thousandth goal. In about five games I think is enough for my hunger and my eye for goals.”
Túlio is the only player to be a leading scorer in three different levels in the Brazilian football system (Serie A, B and C) and believes he has still got what it takes to score goals.
“The important thing is that I am well prepared. I’m still missing the first touch, but I think with two or three balls in the penalty area I can leave my mark at least once. I have motivation to make a goal for the first team, but we’ll see how my preparation goes first.”
