Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin has revealed that he believes midfielder Maicosuel is a quality player but still needs to adapt to playing in Italy.

The Brazilian scored the only goal of his new side’s 1-0 win over Pescara at the Stadio Friuli yesterday.

The home side faced a difficult task as Brazilian defender Danilo was shown a second yellow card after just 30 minutes, but Francesco Guidolin"s men did enough to secure all three points, moving them into 12th in Serie A.

Maicosuel has had a difficult time since leaving Botafogo, especially after he missed the decisive penalty in a Champions League qualifying shootout against Braga in August.

However, coach Guidolin believes the 26-year-old is a quality player but still needs time to adapt.

He said: “We immediately noticed that he was a quality player but needs to adapt to the new surroundings.

“He has fallen on hard times after going out of the preliminary round of the Champions League and we suffered as the whole team. Now we must forget this episode and move on.

“Maicosuel is playing well. He is talented and can be very powerful behind [Antonio] Di Natale."

Udinese’s  next game is a visit to Roma, where Maicosuel will be looking to build upon his impressive performance.
