Flamengo right-back Wellington Silva, one of the club’s few highlights of a disappointing year, has told Lancenet! that he is still waiting on the club to open discussions over making permanent his loan-move from Resende.

Wellington, 24, moved to the Rubro-Negro on loan until the end of the season in May, having starred for his side in the Rio de Janeiro state championship at the start of the year.

Since joining the Carioca giants, the full-back has pushed his way into the first-team, displacing former captain Léo Moura into midfield, and impressing with his high-energy showings on the flanks.

“No-one from the club has approached me yet, but I believe this is because we are very concerned with the final run-in of the Brasileirão,” Wellington told reporters. “If they want me to stay, I will accept with pleasure.

“I knew I would need to do a lot to win a starting place. I am a fan of Léo but I’m grabbing this opportunity with everything. Every game is a final for me. I’m comfortable at Flamengo, I don’t want to play for a small club anymore.”
