Ponte Preta are looking into the possibility of requesting for the cancellation of last weekends match against Fluminense in which they lost 2-1. The club’s legal department are studying the league’s legislation as they felt hard done by in the game after both Fluminense goals were down to the errors of the referee Nielson Dias Nogueira.

The Ponte Preta legal director, Tagino Alves dos Santos, told Lancenet:

“We are doing a study of the relevance of the case. It is not yet decided. Let’s see what the legislation provides for the a case against the attitude of the referee. We will also have a meeting with the board to see if they accept.”

The league itself has already acted on the poor performance of the referee by suspending Nogueira after he admitted to his mistakes. However, this is not enough punishment for Ponte Preta’s liking and they are seeking further action.

“The Arbitration Committee has ruled him out, he admitted the error, but was not prosecuted. It allows us at least a formal representation against the misconceptions of him. With that, the referee can take 12-13 days off, plus a fine,” he added.
