British newspaper The Sun are reporting that Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda, who has been banished to the reserves at Stamford Bridge, is set to move to Santos in the January transfer window. Malouda, whose wife is from Brazil, was linked to a number of Brasileirão clubs earlier this summer but apparently priced himself out of a move due to wage demands.

However, The Sun‘s report was filed after rumours of the imminent transfer came out of France over the weekend from trusted source France Football and it was today picked up in Brazil by Lancenet, who it appears now believe it now has some substance.

Santos are flush with cash after selling Ganso to São Paulo last month and are keen to rebuild their midfield for next season, ready for a shot at the Brasileirão title next year. France Football also said that the player had already visited the Vila Belmiro in recent months and has had advance negotiations with Santos president Luis Alvaro.

In a recent interview Santos coach Muricy Ramalho said: “He (Malouda) is a hell of a player, an old-fashioned midfielder, it would be very interesting. Moreover, he has amazing experience, he has starred in big clubs in Europe.”

Santos are not the only club after Malouda’s signature though, as his former club Lyon are also in the mix.
