Real Madrid’s Marcelo has vowed to throw himself into rehabilitation and get back into the team as he recovers from a metatarsal injury.

Marcelo told Real Madrid’s official website: “I will do everything to get back in the team quickly. This will not wipe the smile off my face. I’m always happy. Now I need to work hard to get back to playing.”

The Seleção fullback suffered a fractured metatarsal bone in training with the national team before the friendly against Iraq and was then ruled out for three months.

“I hope this the first and last time I get the injury. I would not want that to happen to anybody. Sometimes that can happen in training or in a match.”

But Marcelo says the injury will not affect his good humour: “Now I need to recover well to get back as soon as possible. If I’m strong and in a good mood, my teammates and my family will help me in recovery.”

Real Madrid have made a poor start to the season, lying in 5th place and eight points behind leaders Barcelona.
