The coach insisted that too much is expected of his team and that they needed to blend before results would happen.

Menezes told Globoesporte: “This situation is obviously uncomfortable. There is no such thing as a coach who has not been called stupid before.

The 50-year-old also lamented the lack of time he has with his players compared to their clubs: “Familiarity with players is much greater at a club, where proximity allows you to go further in situations.

“There is no co-existence in the 60 or 90 days between one or two international games.”

The coach also recognised the expectations the nation has ahead of the home World Cup in 2014: “Obviously, in the run up to a World Cup on home soil, expectation is that we finish world champions, but we must live with that.”

Brazil continues to prepare for the 2014 World Cup by facing Japan on Tuesday with kickoff at 9.20pm UK time.
