Brazil striker Hulk has stated his belief that his new club Zenit St Petersburg will be ‘one of the biggest teams in Europe’ in the near future.

The Zenit star told Fifa.com about his €60m transfer to the Russian side and cited coach Luciano Spalletti as an important part in his decision to move: “I’d spoken to Spalletti. He sold the club to me very well, telling me about the great structure that was in place and their project of builing a great side.

“And that’s just what I found here: a great structure and an ambitious project. I’m certain that, in the future, Zenit will be one of the biggest teams in Europe.”

Hulk was also linked to many of the biggest clubs in Europe but a move was never on the cards according to the striker: “During the whole transfer window there were a lot of rumours about me interesting a number of big clubs, but neither Porto nor I were keen on the offers that came in.”

The Seleção forward aims to succeed in the Champions League this season: “Of course it’s important to win the Russian title, but I think that our biggest aim is to do well in the Champions League.

“We may have lost our two opening games, but we’re not out of it yet. We’ve got the ability and quality to still reach the next round.”

Hulk has made six appearances for Zenit this season, scoring three goals, including one against AC Milan in the Champions League.
