Fluminense head coach Abel Braga believes the suspension that will keep Deco out of his team’s fixture against Ponte Preta at the São Januário stadium on Sunday could not come at a better time.

The former Chelsea, Barcelona and Porto midfielder only just returned to the Fluminense team after 2 months out with a thigh injury, which saw him miss 11 games. However the games have come thick and fast since his return, and Braga believes Deco do with a rest.

He told Globo Esporte: “It will actually be good for him. He played three games in ten days after a long layoff and it could be risky to play against Ponte Preta and then go straight into the game against Grêmio. Now he will recover and on Wednesday he will be 100% ready to help us.”

Fluminense currently sit top of the Brasileirão table with 65 points, 9 clear of second placed Grêmio, who face Botafogo on Sunday.
