It came from some astonishingly poor defensive play from Brazil, but the end result left Chelsea star David Luiz in a daze as he was inadvertantly punched by his own keeper – Diego Alves.

With Adriano having conceded possession and Iraq bursting into the Brazil area, the ball looped up in the air in Luiz’s direction.

The Chelsea man jumped to head the ball, but with an astonishing lack of communication was met by both the ball and the fist of his own goalkeeper, sending the ball itself dangerously back across goal.

After several minutes of treatment, Luiz was on his feet and able to continue the game. (However, for someone so naturally talkative, the lack of a post-match interview may indicate that he was still feeling the impact of his keeper’s fist sometime later!)

It was, ultimately, a light-hearted moment in what was a convincing 6-0 win over Iraq for Mano Menezes’ side, who now take on Japan in Poland next Tuesday.
