Palmeiras have reportedly agreed a deal with Coritiba to sign defender Ayrton, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season’s Brasileirão.

The 27-year-old right-back has caught the attention of the Alviverde this season, especially when former coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was in charge.

Roberto Frizzo, vice president of Palmeiras, confirmed the deal, but could not give any details concerning contract details.

He told Lancenet!: “I do not know how the business was closed. The important thing is that we are strengthening our squad for 2013.”

Palmeiras are currently struggling in the league, in 18th place with 26 points from 28 games, and are already thinking about next year.

The club needed to strengthen the right-back position in particular as they currently only have Artur, who is on loan from São Caetano.

Palmeiras face relegation rivals Coritiba on Friday at the Braga Municipal Stadium, with kick off scheduled for 01:00 BST.
