Former Fenerbahçe captain Alex de Souza has insisted he will always be a fan of the Super Lig side despite the manner in which he left the club.

The 35-year-old had his contract terminated last week after falling out with coach Aykut Kocaman over complaints the Brazilian made on Twitter.

Alex had become a fan’s favourite during his eight years at Kadikoy, and even had a statue erected in his honour, but this didn’t prevent the controversial termination of his deal in Turkey, which was set to expire at the end of the season.

However, despite the way he left, Alex has spoke fondly about his time at the club and insisted that he holds no grudges.

He said: “For eight years I tried my hardest for the team, I don"t know what the future holds but I can say this from the bottom of my heart, I will always be a Fenerbahçe fan.

“I have no bad feelings towards anyone and hope Fenerbahçe win the league and Europa League trophies.

“I have no problem with the chairman, he loves the club and his decision is always made with the club in mind.

“My playing career at Fenerbahçe is over but as my last wish I"d like to play my testimonial game in Kadikoy [Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.]"

The former Palmeiras, Cruzeiro and Coritiba star is now a free agent and recently stated that he wants to continue playing professional football for another two years before retiring.

Thousands of Cruzeiro fans recently took to the streets of Belo Horizonte to call for the former idol to return to the club.

However, due to the end of the player registration window, Alex will be unable to officially sign for a club until January but the Cruzeirense faithful are already looking to win him back.
