The Brazilian Federation (CBF) have announced that they will not be replacing injured defenders Dani Alves and Alex Sandro, meaning that Manchester United full-back Rafael will not be involved for the Seleção.

Rafael, 22, and Porto’s Danilo, 21, were the natural candidates to come into the squad for the friendly encounters, but the CBF has confirmed that neither player will be involved for the fixtures with Iraq and Japan.

It is thought that Mano Menezes will utilise Barcelona left-back Adriano on the right side of the defence, while Marcelo will continue in his usual role on the left side of defence.

Rafael has been on the sidelines for Brazil since his error in the final of the Olympic Games which led to the opening goal for Mexico.

It was thought that the injury to Dani Alves may provide a return from the wilderness for the youngster, but Mano Menezes has decided not to take-up the opportunity.

The full-back was voted Manchester United’s Player of the Month for September after a series of impressive displays which continued against Newcastle this past weekend.
