Botafogo midfielder Andrezinho has praised his side’s fighting spirit during their 1-0 derby defeat to Brasileirão leaders Fluminense.

Fluminense once again had to rely on Fred to find the net and claim all three points, which was his 14th goal of the Brasileirão campaign.

However, the score line in the Engenhão could have been very different as for large periods of the game Botafogo were the better team and missed a hatful of chances.

Fluminense goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri put in a fantastic performance, pulling off some great saves to deny Botafogo, which Andrezinho has acknowledged.

The 29-year-old said: “Unfortunately we could not score a goal, Cavalieri made three great saves in the first half.

“I am saddened by the defeat but not by our performance.

“We know that the Brasileirão is very difficult, and our team has many young players, in these times experience counts.

“With this spirit and this union, we will definitely have good things at the end of the season.”

Botafogo have now played five consecutive games without winning, keeping them in seventh place with 40 points.
