Chelsea defender David Luiz has spoken out at his delight in signing a new contract with 2012 Uefa Champions League winners and current Premier League leaders Chelsea earlier this month.

Luiz, 25, moved to Stamford Bridge from Benfica 18 months ago and has had a big impact in West London since making the €25 million switch.

The former Vitória player signed his new deal after the recent home victory with Stoke and is looking forward to even more success at the club in the future.

“I’m so happy because it gives me more confidence to look to the future, to try and help Chelsea all the time,” he told chelseafc.com.

“I love this club and playing for Chelsea, so five more years here is a dream for me.”

Luiz scored a fantastic free-kick in the 4-0 Champions League victory at Nordsjaelland this week, but knows there is strong competition at the club to take the set-pieces.

“I will try to take more free-kicks. In Denmark, I had a had a great place for a shot, but we have Mata and Frank and everyday we just do it in training.

“Sometimes they give me the ball and I had the confidence to take the ball and just shoot. If you have confidence to shoot, you can shoot.”
