Vasco's Juninho on the verge of his best goalscoring season

He might be 37-years-old but with 11 games of the season to go, Vasco da Gama midfielder Juninho Pernambucano looks set to beat his previous best tally of 13 goals for a Brasileirão season, set in 1996 also with Vasco.
The former Lyon star, who won 7 league titles in a row with the French club, could break his record this weekend in the fixture against Atlético Goianense and he told Globo Esporte that, despite his great record, scoring goals was never his priority.
He said: "When I started my career, I never had the intention to be top scorer, but over time I realised I needed to do something more.
"So I made more arrivals in the attack, took more shots and after eight years in France, I scored 100 goals. I'm glad to be able to repeat this average per season, even at the age of 37.
"I came back to play my best and not just to end my days as a professional. The history I have with Vasco inspires me. It's just a shame we still have ups and downs in the league."
And according to his club teammate Nilton, the free-kick specialist should play on for a few years yet.
"He is an idol for me........He is in perfect condition and can play up to 40 if he wants."
