Bordeaux and right-back Mariano kicked-off their Europa League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Club Brugge on Thursday, at home, at the Chaban-Delmas Stadium.

The French side’s goals were scored by Sané (13’), Gouffran, (27’), Engels (own goal; 47’), and Jussiê (66’) with an assist from Mariano. 

“We had a great match and did not give chances to Brugge. It was a very good performance from our team, we are all to be congratulated for an excellent game,” Mariano said.

“The victory makes us very proud of our work – it is always good to start with a victory – especially in front of our fans.

“I provided an assist and contributed to one of the goals, it is also a cause for celebration for me. Helping the team on the field is always very rewarding.”

Bordeaux are currently undefeated in the 2012-13 season after five Ligue 1 games, resulting in two wins and three draws. In continental competition, beyond the good result over Brugge, the team eliminated Red Star Belgrade (SER) in the playoffs, with a 0-0 draw in Belgrade and 3-2 win at home.

Mariano added: “We have not lost this season, proof that that the work in trainingis going very well for the players and coaching staff. We want this sequence to lasts as long as possible.”
