The final day of the Paulista championship provided little excitement, given São Paulo had secured the title several games ago. But this didn’t stop the increasingly strong looking São Paulo winning their final game, beating Mogi Mirim 2-1; goals for Grafite and Souza, with Marcelo Rosa scoring for Mogi.

With the championship title decided the rush for second place continued. Eventually it was the ‘Galatico’s’ Corinthians who clinched second place after a 3 – 0 win over Portuguesa Santista with goals from Wilson, Dinélson and Rosinei.

Santos had to settle for 3rd place after only managing a draw against Marília after falling behind to Geilsons 7th minute goal, Beto equalised for Santos 4 minutes later; the game finished 1-1.
