With Brazilian giants Palmeiras currently eight points from safety in the Brasileirão, with just 13 games remaining, fans of the Verdão are starting to worry about the looming possibility of relegation.

Managerless Palmeiras have won just one of their last nine games, of which seven have been defeats, causing the side to drop to joint bottom of the table.

Director of football Cesar Sampaio has not yet given up hope of a revival that will take the side to safety, but believes it is now time for action from all those involved with the club.

“Us directors are not going to convince any supporter by talking,” Sampaio told Globo Esporte. “At this moment there are responsibilities that must be fulfilled. We will not go down.”

Next up for Palmeiras is a trip to 18th place Figueirense, followed by a home tie with mid-table Ponte Preta – two of the more favourable of their remaining fixtures.

Defeat in both and Palmeiras face a bleak outlook in their fight for top-flight survival.
