Patrick Vieira backs Maicon to be a success at Manchester City
Former Inter and Arsenal player Patrick Vieira believes Brazilian defender Maicon will be a major boost for Manchester City.
The Premier League champions signed Maicon on transfer deadline day for a fee of £3 million, with the the Seleção international signing a two-year contract.
Vieira, who is now a football development executive at City, played alongside Maicon at Inter and has been full of praise for the full-back.
The 36-year-old said: "Maicon is a fantastic player. I spent a few years with him at Inter and he has experience and talent.
"He has the ambition to be part of the Brazilian national team for the World Cup.
"It is something really important for him and I am sure he will bring a lot to this football club. He is a fantastic character to have around too."
Maicon won four Serie A titles and one Champions League during his six years with the Nezzuri.
"Maicon has the experience of winning the Italian league and the Champions League and to have him at the football club is fantastic," Vieira added.
The right-back will be competing with Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta for a place in the starting eleven, when City face Stoke City on Saturday.
