Vasco da Gama have announced that former Coritiba manager Marcelo Oliveira will become the new manager of the Rio de Janeiro club.

Following lunch with the club’s directors on Wednesday, Oliveira agreed terms on an 18-month contract until the end of the 2014 season and will take his first training session on Thursday.

The coach, who took Coritiba to the 2011 and 2012 Copa do Brasil final, comes with a burgeoning reputation, despite quitting as Coxa manager just under two weeks ago.

His first task will be to ensure that Vasco finish the season strongly and qualify for the 2013 Copa Libertadores, with the team currently lying in a comfortable fourth position.
