FULL TIME – Brazil 1 – 0 South Africa – Solitary goal from substitute Hulk wins it at the Morumbi. Could have gone either way. Poor performance from Brazil, which was met with more boos following the full-time whistle. Mano Menezes just about survives, but for how much longer will he be in charge? The Seleção will now travel to Recife for a friendly with China on Monday.

90+4′ – YELLOW CARD – Goalscorer Hulk gets booked

90+3′ – Diego Alves makes another simple save. The Valencia shot-stopper hasn’t had to do too much this game.

90+2′ – YELLOW CARD – Ramires is taken out by Dikgaco, and his name is taken.

90+1′ – Dani Alves is fouled and stays down.

89′ – SUBSTITUTION – Neymar is replaced by his Santos teammate Arouca.

88′ – Great play from Hulk who takes the ball on his chest before setting up Oscar. Dani Alves then rockets the ball wide of the goal.

87′ – Corner to the Bafana.

86′ – Alex Sandro returns to the field following treatment.

84′ – Paulinho with a long ball to Neymar, who just about keeps it in before hitting the ball into the side netting.

83′ – The Seleção defence are dealing well with the threat of Tshabalala, who is at the heart of all of South Africa’s attacks.

82′ –  Paulinho with a shot on goal, but goes wide.

82′ – Tshabalala whips the ball into the box but goalkeeper Diego Alves cuts out the cross.

80′ – Big relief for coach Mano Menezes and Brazil following Hulk’s goal. The home side look in good shape to see this game out or maybe even score again.

77′ – YELLOW CARD – South Africa’s Gaxa picks up a yellow

77′ – Neymar almost makes it 2-0 with a header from the 6-yard box.

76′ – YELLOW CARD – Khune is booked

76′ – South Africa look shaken by the goal and could be punished further here.

75′ – SUBSTITUTION – Serero on for Maluleka

74′ – GOAL! Brazil 1-0 South Africa (Hulk) Hulk puts the home side ahead after slamming a volley into the back of the net. Goalkeeper could do nothing as he was recovering from making another save.

73′ – Some neat play from the Seleção, but a challenge is made on Neymar at the vital moment.

72′ – SUBSTITUTION – PSG signing Lucas Moura is replaced by Valencia’s Jonas.

71′ – Hulk pulls his shot wide of the goal after some good work from Neymar.

69′ – Neymar curls the ball towards the top corner of the net but the Kaiser Chiefs’ goalkeeper pulls out another great save. Corner to the home side.

69′ – New Zenit St. Petersburg forward Hulk wins a free-kick on the left side of the area, following a foul from Gaxa.

66′ – Play breaks whilst South African player receives treatment for an injury.

65′ – Very rushed play from Brazil, who can’t seem to create anything substantial, despite playing in and around the Bafana’s area.

63′ – SUBSTITUTION – Double change from Mano Menezes. Damiao off for Hulk and Paulinho replaces Romulo.

62′ – Ball into the box reaches Damiao, but he is ruled offside.

61′ – The Bafana have stepped up their tempo and are taking a much more direct approach this half.

59′ – SUBSTITUTION – Brazil’s Marcelo is replaced by Alex Sandro.

59′ – Corner to South Africa, comes to nothing.

57′ – Another long-range effort from the visitors. Bernard Parker with a powerful strike, that goes just over. The substitute has made a great impact since coming on.

56′ – Neymar with his first real attack. Jinks his way into a shooting opportunity but isn’t strong enough.

56′ – Great play from Oscar who sets up Damiao. The Interacional striker hits the ball into the side netting.

55′ – SUBSTITUTION – Chabango is replaced by Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

54′ – South Africa showing much more of an attacking threat during these opening exchanges.

53′ – Ball is kicked before the referee blows his whistle so has to be re-taken. Comes to nothing.

52′ – Dani Alves handles the ball. Free-kick to the Bafana, about 30-yards out.

52′ – Ball fired straight across Brazil’s box, but no South African player is there to tap it in.

51′ – Brazil with a throw-in close to their corner flag. Tshabalala confused as to how it was theirs.

49′ – Oscar counter-attacks from the corner but Neymar loses posession after going to ground easily. 

49′ – Great run from Bernard Parker into the box, and South Africa win their first corner of the game.

48′ – Long range strike from Chabangu, which goes just over the bar. South Africa starting the better of the two sides.

46′ – David Luiz is fouled. Free-kick to Brazil.

45′ – South Africa restart the game.

21.08 – Sides are emerging for the second-half. Brazil on the pitch first.

21.00 – “Adeus Mano” (Goodbye Mano) was the chant circulating the Morumbi in the final minutes of the first half. The passionate Brazil fans expect a lot more from their side during the next 45 minutes. What does Menezes need to change?

HALF TIME – Brazil 0-0 South Africa – The visitors will be pleased with their first half performance. Despite a couple of scares, South Africa’s physicality has made it difficult for Brazil so far. Chorus of boos from the home fans as the whistle blows.

45+1′ – Marcelo commits another foul and the resulting free-kick is launched forward.

44′ – SUBSTITUTION – Bernard Melvin Parker comes on for previous substitute Benni McCarthy.

43′ – Benni McCarthy is down injured and looks to be in serious pain.

42′ – Great ball whipped into the box from Dani Alves, which finds Neymar one on one. The Santos striker hits the ball on the volley but it is saved well by Khune, who just about keeps it as 0-0.

41′ – Benni McCarthy ruled offside following long ball.

40′ – Neymar commits another foul in South Africa’s half of the field.

39′ – YELLOW CARD – Marcelo is booked for quite a dangerous tackle with his foot raised.

38′ – Lucas Moura is penalised for handball as he believes he was fouled.

37′ – South Africa continue to play very deep, meaning they have few options when they do actually break forward.

36′ – Great ball to Marcelo on the left flank, but the Real Madrid man commits a foul trying to win the ball.

34′ – Brazil controlling the possession now and working their way into attacking situations.

33′ – Good low strike from Romulo but it is saved well once again by the Bafana goalkeeper.

32′ – SUBSTITUTION – Benni McCarthy replaces the injured Dino Ndlovu, who seems to have dislocated his shoulder.

30′ – Another free-kick to South Africa. Plenty of fouls from both teams in this friendly.

29′ – David Luiz fouls Ndlovu, who has stayed down with a shoulder problem.

28′ – Leandro Damião almost gets his head to Neymars cross to the back post, but South Africa deal with the danger.

27′ – Corner to Brazil. The Seleção are attacking well down the right wing.

26′ – Quick and slick passing from Brazil, eventually leads to a cross reaching Neymar at the back post but the ball goes out for a goal kick.

25′ – Free-kick from South Africa is caught well by Diego Alves.

23′ – Stand-in captain David Luiz has to go off the pitch to change his ripped shirt.

22′ – Good through ball from Marcelo to Leandro Damião, who eventually crosses it into the middle but doesn’t find a Brazilian player.

20′ – South Africa seem to be dealing with Brazil’s attacking threat quite well for now.

18′ – Another corner to the home side, this time played short and Oscar shoots over from outside of the box.

16′ – Free-kick finds the head of Dedé in the box, only denied by a great save from goalkeeper Khune. Goes for a corner.

15′ – YELLOW CARD – Lerato Chabango is booked for poor challenge from behind on Lucas Moura.

14′ – Leandro Damião wins a corner for Brazil after battling with the left-back.

12′ – YELLOW CARD – Dedé is booked after completely missing the ball and instead swiping the leg of his opponent.

11′ – Great stop from goalkeeper Diego Alves after South Africa break into the box unchallenged. Could have easily been 1-0.

10′ – Good ball out wide to Chelsea midfielder Oscar, who tries and fails to beat the left-back.

9′ – Ramires breaks into the box but can’t beat the defender, who tackles well.

8′ – Diego Alves comes off his line to deal with a through ball.

7′ – South Africa break down the left but Tshabalala’s cross doesn’t find anyone in the box.

6′ – Brazil are applying some early pressure and causing problems for the Bafana defence.

5′ – Free-kick to Brazil after Ramires is body-checked.

4′ – Neymar goes down in the middle of the pitch after strong challenge. South Africa kick it out for a throw-in.

2′ – Free-kick to Brazil after foul on Dedé.

2′ – The Seleção are moving the ball around well and building from the back.

20.04 – Brazil finally about to get the game underway!

19.57 – With Thiago Silva injured, David Luiz has been handed the Seleção’s captain armband.

19.54 – Reports suggest the game has been delayed due to a problem with the kits clashing. Strange that Brazil aren’t wearing their famous home colours, especially on a day like today.

19.50 – The teams are out onto the pitch and are preparing for the national anthems. Brazil wearing all blue and South Africa in their green and yellow kit.
