Ancelotti: Thiago Silva is the best defender in the world

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti believes the club's new signing Thiago Silva is the best defender in the world.

The 27-year-old, who helped Brazil win silver at the Olympic Games in London earlier this summer, joined PSG from AC Milan in July for a reported fee of €42 million.

''Thiago Silva is the best defender in the world,'' Ancelotti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

''No one has the attention, the speed, the heading or the sense of anticipation like he has. He is on track to becoming the next [Paolo] Maldini. He just lacks a bit of personality, but that will come in time.''
