Palmeiras sign left-back Leandro on short-term deal

Palmeiras have signed left-back Leandro Silva Wanderley until the end of the year, as cover for the injured Fernandinho.
The 33-year-old has re-joined the Série A side on a short term contract which is based on "productivity", following his successful loan from Porto in 2007.
Leandro has been signed as emergency cover for Fernandinho, who will be out for up to eight months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his left knee, and Juninho.
The veteran defender had planned to retire this year, but a proposal from América-RJ persuaded him to stay in the game a little longer.
Roberto Frizzo, vice-president of Palmeiras, said: "[Leandro] is an experienced player and comes without cost.
"It is a contract till the end of the year. We have decided to give him our vote of confidence."
The former Vitória and Cruzeiro player, who had been without a club since last December, will be presented by Palmeiras at 12pm on Wednesday.
