Cris: Galatasaray is a challengeCris making an aerial challenge for Lyon
Galatasaray defender Cris has admitted he is sad to leave Lyon but is relishing the challenge ahead of him at his new club.
The 35-year-old completed a € 1.25 million switch yesterday, following an eight year spell in France with Lyon.
The former Corinthians and Cruzeiro player wanted one last challenge before retiring from the game but is sad to be leaving the Ligue 1 side.
He said: "A page turns, another begins. This is a new episode in my life.
"I'm happy, but also sad. I leave the club where I spent eight years, where I lived for beautiful things, a club that I will keep in my heart and its supporters. I will never forget what the club did for me when my daughter was born.
"I wanted to finish my career at OL. But this proposal is interesting for me and for the club."
"Discussions went well with Galatasaray. No problems. I know a little of the club and I know [Cláudio] Taffarel, [Felipe] Melo, Milan [Baros] and [Johan]Elmander. It is a challenge."
Cristiano Marques Gomes, known as Cris, will have his contract extended by one year should he play 25 games for the Lions.
The Brazilian, who represented the Seleção at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, could debut for his new club when they take on Antalyaspor in the Süper Lig on September 15.
