Santos coach Muricy Ramalho insists he will not turn his back on Paulo Henrique Ganso after the midfielder was subject to an onslaught of boos, coin throwing and chants of ”mercenary” at the hands of club’s fans during Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Bahia.

The 22-year-old was recently quoted saying ”it would be a pleasure to wear the shirt of São Paulo” after he had expressed his desire to leave Santos, which provoked a nasty reaction from the Peixe faithful.

However, Muricy has urged the Santos fans to remember that Ganso has played a key role in helping the club win a handful of trophies over the last few seasons.

”We must stand by him, he is a professional who has helped us a lot,” the former Fluminense trainer told the Gazeta Esportiva. ”You cannot turn your back on anyone and it will not change anything.

”We will keep working with Ganso, and we will ask him to play in the way he knows how to.”
