Villas-Boas: Tottenham are no longer looking for a new striker – but Leandro Damião is a fantastic player
Reports in Brazil earlier this week claimed that representatives of Spurs were in Porte Alegre trying to thrash out a deal with Internacional for the highly-rated 23-year-old.
However, after signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City earlier this week, Tottenham have given up on trying to bring Damião to White Hart Lane, according to Villas-Boas.
''Leandro is a fantastic player that I know off. I went to see him in Brazil when I was doing nothing [after being sacked by Chelsea in March]!'' the Portuguese coach told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
''He is obviously a good, good player but he is not on our prospect at the moment, because I think we are closed on what we are trying to do with the strike situation.''
