Former Brazil international Romario has criticised his country’s squad for the 2012 Olympic Games football tournament.

Seleção coach Mano Menezes handed the three slots allocated for players over the age of 23 to AC Milan centre-back Thiago Silva, Real Madrid left-back Marcelo and Porto forward Hulk, but Romario believes they should have been used for players with more international experience.

”It’s sh*t. Nothing against the over-23’s who were selected, but this should have gone to players who are more experienced,” the former Barcelona forward explained to reporters.

”I’m not the coach, but I disagree with this selection. I would take three defenders over the age of 23.

”Hulk is a good player and has a big future, but he is a player for the 2014 World Cup, not the Olympics. We have too many players over the age of 23. We should have taken a player who commands respect.”
