Roma sign Marquinho from Fluminense
Roma have completed the signing of Fluminense wing-back Marquinho for a fee of €3.5 million.
The versatile 25-year-old initially joined the Stadio Olimpico side on a six-month loan in January but has now put pen to paper on a permanent deal.
Marquinho, who netted three times in 15 appearances during his loan spell, has signed for the club until the summer of 2016.
Hopes of a permanent transfer looked to have ended earlier this week when the deadline passed for the Italian club to sign Marquinho for an agreed fee.
Talks soon restarted though and an official statement on Roma’s website suggests that they successfully negotiated the asking price by a reduction of €1million.
The statement read: "AS Roma announces that it has exercised the option to purchase outright the registration of the player Marco Antonio De Mattos Filho (Marquinho), with the recognition in favour of FC Fluminense a fee of €3.5m."
The Serie A side will pay Marquinho’s transfer fee in two instalments of €2m and €1.5m respectively, with the second to be paid before July 10, 2013.
The deal is Marquinho's first permanent move away from his native country, in which he represented Palmeiras, Botafogo and Figueirense, before joining Fluminense in 2009.
