Palmeiras are close to agreeing terms on a deal to bring Shandong Luneng striker Obina back to Brazil, after a disappointing 2012 season in China.

Obina, 29, is a favourite at Palmeiras after a loan-spell at the club in 2009, but it is for his spell at Flamengo that he is best remembered.

Palmeiras have agreed terms with the player over a loan-deal, but are waiting on the Chinese side’s response to the $300,000 offer for a one-year loan, with an option to buy.

“I think we will have an outcome next week,” said Palmeiras director of football, Cesar Sampiao. “We have the possibility to loan and then buy, the values are already under discussion.

“We are now awaiting a positive response or Chinese counter offer. I’m optimistic, but we have nothing more we can do. Just wait.”
