Joel Santana sacked as Flamengo manager

Experienced coach Joel Santana has been sacked as manager of Flamengo, after a disappointing start to the 2012 season, according to numerous reports in Brazil.

Joel oversaw Flamengo's exit from the Copa Libertadores, a catastrophic state championship campaign on-and-off the pitch, as well as seeing the team to ninth place so far in the Brasileirão.

Flamengo under Joel Santana had become a soap-opera, which was eventually ended with the departure of Ronaldinho. The team, though, was left bereft of stars.

It is now the fifth time Joel has been dismissed by Flamengo.
