Roberto Carlos has urged Real Madrid to sign Inter Milan right-back Maicon.

The 30-year-old, who has attracted interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, has just one year to run on his contract at the San Siro, and Inter’s president Massimo Moratti has hinted that the Nerazzurri could cash in on the Brazilian this summer.

Reports have suggested that Real Madrid coach José Mourinho is keen on bringing Maicon to the Santiago Bernabeu, but the Spanish club’s hierarchy are believed to be put off by the player’s wage demands.

However, Carlos believes Maicon has ‘everything’ to become a success at Madrid, and is convinced his former employers will not ‘regret’ signing his fellow countryman.

”I know that Mourinho wants Maicon and I know that he has great respect and regard for the Portuguese coach,” Carlos was quoted as saying to Marca.

”If he ends up going to Real Madrid, I’m sure no-one will regret the signing. Maicon has everything Real Madrid needs: experience, power and a good long shot. He scores goals. He’s a great right back.”
