Flamengo youngster Thomás, who played a big role in Brazil Under-20"s recent success at the Eight Nations Cup in South Africa, has spoken about his hopes of building his status at Flamengo this season.

Thomás, 20, came into the Rubro-Negro team last season, but has struggled to make an impression since the arrival of Joel Santana in January.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Thomas said: “It was important for me [to play for the Under-20 side]. I realized a dream that I always had, to play for the Brazilian team.

“The group was very nice and the coaching staff. Contact with Ney [Franco, U20 coach] was the best possible experience, he is a great coach and a great person. I learned a lot.

“It was important to restore my confidence. I"m ready when Flamengo need me – juniors or first-team. I have come back more prepared and more confident, willing to help Flamengo get to where they deserve to be – fighting for honours."
