Taking on Vasco in the Copa Libertadores in the fearsome São Januario stadium, Corinthians emerged with a creditable 0-0 draw and Emerson was quick to praise his side"s defensive fortitude.
However, the pacy striker did admit that his side had intended on returning to São Paulo with a goal to their name.
“It was not what we planned. The idea was to score a goal here, but it is not the worst result," he told Goal.com.
“Anyway, it was a difficult game, with rainy weather and a heavy pitch, but now we will be at home. Anyone can progress.
“It was important [not to concede]. We were completely secure. We wanted not to concede goals because, then just one goal will put us ahead.
“Everyone is to be congratulated. It was a tough game in rainy weather on a heavy field… Now, anyone can progress."
