Fluminense medical coordinator Victor Favilla has confirmed that Fred will miss the Carioca state championship Final against Botafogo and the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-final against Boca Juniors due to a muscle injury.
The 27-year-old was forced off in the second-half of the Tricolor’s 2-1 win over Internacional on Thursday night.
''Fred felt pain and was assessed in the dressing room,'' Favilla told reporters. ''An MRI scan revealed that he has a grade 2 strain in the posterior muscle of his right thigh.
''He has already begun treatment and is very motivated to return to action as soon as possible.''
The news will undoubtedly come as a major blow to Fluminense's Copa Libertadores hopes, as Fred has played a key role in the club's good start to the season.
Fluminense's medical staff have yet to reveal when the forward will return to training.
