The star of Grêmio's 2011 State Championships, Leandro was apprehended in the early hours of Thursday morning and charged with possession of a fake driving-licence.
Leandro, 18, was taken to a nearby prison and interviewed alongside his lawyer as part of a crackdown into motor crime, that also saw Manchester United's Anderson stopped last-week.
The talented youngster had enjoyed a blistering start to the 2011 season, before finding the step-up to Brasileirão level difficult.
Grêmio are though standing by their man, with director of football Paulo Pelaipe insisting that this is a private matter for the player, not a club issue.
