Aguilar is one of a group of players involved in Desportivo Brasil’s link-up with Manchester United, where the English club take the players to train twice a year, retaining a first-option on their purchase.

Previously at Cruzeiro, Aguilar was snapped-up by the academy side after excelling in Belo Horizonte, much to the annoyance of the Mineiro side.

(Interview translated from Olheiros.net)

How was the experience of playing or Manchester United in the Future Champions tournament?

I think it was important for my development. The team played a 4-4-2 that fits best with my style and it was good work in a different system.

You already have your way out the country sorted and will leave at a time when players based in Brazilian football have reached the national team once more (Neymar, Leandro Damião and Lucas). Do you fear being forgotten?

It is clear that Mano has preferred to call-up players who play abroad. I had the opportunity to exchange at Manchester United and for me the gameplay is better there. I hope to mature faster, both physically and technically.

You have already spent time at both Manchester United and Twente. What are the differences between the two clubs?

It is clear that Manchester United is far greater in terms of structure; they offer everything a player needs. But, Twente is also a great club who give many opportunities for young people and can be a useful entry point so that I can adapt myself to the continent. We already train in the European style of play, so I don’t think there will be any issues.

How is your daily routine? Is there already something special done to facilitate their adaptation to Europe?

Usually I train and then go to school to learn English, which is essential. On the pitch, we do specific training routines and I think this will help me greatly improve before next year.

Do you dream of playing in any team in Brazil or just want a career in Europe?

When I was child, I hoped to play for São Paulo. I watched every game of theirs, but now I do not watch. I have a great affection for Cruzeiro also, they were the club that took me in at 13-years-old, and also for Desportivo Brasil. Now, I am a professional player, I must think what is best for my career.

Speaking of Cruzeiro, how do you regard the episode that saw you join Desportivo Brasil?

At first it was difficult, I had not imagined that the impact would be so great, but little by little I am adapting here and overcoming this. Today I am relaxed, my head is in the right place and I am aware of what was best for my career. At the moment, I just worry about playing football and getting ready to go to Europe.

The fact you play for a club with less media visibility decreases expectations on the youth ranks. Do you think it helps you to train and develop in a more relaxed manner?

Here, the attention is even greater than at Cruzeiro, because people know that I am part of the Manchester United project (n.b. During the interview, Aguilar was surrounded by several local children). But that does not take away my focus from playing well and scoring goals. I’m very relaxed about the attention.

Do you have an idol in football?

Not really an idol, but I like watching Ibrahimovic play, the way he strikes the ball and creates the plays.
