Last weekend, Flamengo struggled to a slender 1-0 victory over Friburgense with promoted youth-team players Galhardo, Muralha, Thomas and Luiz Antônio all involved.

“It is great to have them back,” Luiz Antônio told Globo Esporte. “They are players who can pass on their experience to others on the pitch.

“They know when to attack and when to slow down the game. It is important for Flamengo and our youngsters.”

Luiz Antônio has been one of the stars of Flamengo’s season to date, with only Léo Moura and Vagner Love consistently matching his levels of performance.

With Flamengo competing for honours on two fronts the squad will be tested to its limits, but Luiz Antônio is prepared for the marathon ahead.

“We are looking to win every game, in the Carioca and the Libertadores. To do this we are trying to improve.

“We are playing on Thursdays and Sundays, it is a big effort. The responsibility is great as we need to gain success in both. We are prepared for this marathon!”
