Lucas’ call-up to Mano Menezes’ squad has meant he will miss São Paulo’s Campeonato Paulista clash against arch-rivals Palmeiras on the 26th February.

”This is bad news. I’ll do anything for him not to go, but he deserves his call-up,” Leão said.

”I think the timing of this call-up is unpleasant. I will lose an important player for a game that’s worth nothing. Before cheering for Brazil, I am the coach of São Paulo.”

Meanwhile, whilst Lucas’ coach is upset with the news, the player himself was delighted with the call-up. The 19-year-old said:

”To play for the Selecão is an honour. I want to wear the shirt as many times as possible.”

Brazil will play Bosnia & Herzegovina on the 28th February at the AFG arena in Switzerland.
