Matheus was introduced for the Rubro-Negro in the second-half of a 0-0 draw against Olaria, coming close to opening his goalscoring account at the first attempt.
“I talk to him a lot,” says Matheus of his father. “My father had a great career and he is an example for me to follow.
“He has given me great peace of mind, telling me just to do my best and I think I succeeded.”
Bebeto was open with reporters about his pride with his son’s debut, comparing it with his own in the early 1980’s.
“I thought it was wonderful,” said the Flamengo idol. “He did not fall over like me! (laughs).
“It was really emotional for me. I started my career here with the same mantle that he now carries.
“I told Matheus of my debut before the game and it all came flooding back to me when I saw him on the field.
