Copa SP: Desportivo eliminate fancied Santos

Vitória were the first to progress with a convincing 6-0 victory over Rondonópolis in São José de Campos. Braces for fowards Agdon and Givanildo sent the North-Eastern side on their way, gainst the minnows from Mato Grosso, before goals from Deniz and Willie rounded-off the convincing victory in the second-half.
In an all Série A battle, Fluminense took on Grêmio for a place in the Quarter-Finals and emerged 4-1 victors over their Gaúcho rivals. Star striker Marcos Júnior finally opened his Copa São Paulo account to get the scoring underway in the second minute, but it was not long before Grêmio were level as Léo Lelis scored an own goal. The second-half was a different story as Fluminense kicked into gear and tore through their rivals with three unmatched goals, with Maicon, Higor and Ronan the scorers.
Inter and Coritiba were subject to the lottery of penalties in the third game of the day, after playing-out a 1-1 draw, with goals from Inter's Pedro and an own-goal Claudio Winck. The Rio Grande do Sul giants missed two of their four penalties however, as Coritiba became the second Paranaense side to continue into the Quarter-Finals.
The final game of the day also provided the biggest shock, as academy side Desportivo Brasil eliminated Santos 2-1 to progress to the next stage. In an even encounter, Desportivo showed their talents in the second-half with two well-worked goals from classy striker Chico. Santos did manage a response through defender Gustavo Henrique from the penalty spot, but it was too little too late for the Paulista giants as they slumped to defeat.
